Monday, November 20, 2006ONE FOR THE ROAD!!!The project is over. I will turn in what I have. For the most part, I am happy with what I have. I did start to texture the hyena, but I didn't finish. But here are the renders anyway :D ![]() ![]() ![]() Home Stretch Some images I didn't get around to scanning <:3 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Wednesday, November 08, 2006More rendersSome more renders of the warrior. The hands have finally been attached to the body and the dress is almost done. I just have to attach the animal fur. The crease down the center is due to the fact that I haven't merged the two halves of the model yet. The one on the right is the original model and the one of the left is the instanced copy. ![]() ![]() Still gotta work on the feet and make them into actual shoes... ![]() Monday, November 06, 2006A quick post on my progress. I've started modeling the human character. I chose a male because I haven't modeled as many males as I have females in the past (go figure >.>) I've gotten the main part of the body, including the head. I still need to model the cloth and the rest of the hand. Here's some snapshots from Blender: ![]() ![]() ![]() Saturday, October 21, 2006Artistic issues...Soooo... I'm supposed to be coloring these refined pieces. But for some odd reason, the ones I started don't look very good to me. The people all seem lifeless. Case in point: ![]() He's supposed to be a warrior of sorts. His attire is based off of the Maasai. And yet, he didn't seem very... "aware" to me, I guess. ![]() And she didn't seem to pop out to me either. So, after some thinking, I attempted to redo the warrior in a different pose, this time more of a profile. ![]() (Yes, his legs are uneven... d'oh! >_< ) And somehow, it still didn't strike me as coming across as being energetic. So I tossed my pencils aside and grabbed some pens and just sat and doodled with them. And somehow, I felt more energy with the pens than I did with my pencils. I dunno why... I just do. Started the rough sketch in red pen, and refined it a bit with black. The red pen was a bit too intense for the scanner and actually showed up a little while scanning in Black and White (it's not supposed to do that... argh). So, instead, I scanned in grayscale and this was the result. ![]() I feel that it has more energy. And I had more fun doing it. It's not a piece that I'll definitely include in the project, though; it was just for practice. I'm debating the presence of the gray lines--a result of the red ink being scanned in grayscale. So I might have to rethink my schedule a bit and go searching for some crappier red pens that won't show up on the scanner... posted at 1:50 AM | 1 comments Wednesday, October 11, 2006Early morning post: People sketchesA quick post before breakfast: started working on the people who inhabit the world of Project Shujaa. A headdress that would be worn by a village woman. ![]() This was based off of a sculpture I saw in one of the books. The concept of a person having small arms amused me, so I drew it. It amused Hector as well. He said he could imagine the guy running around screaming "MERT MERT MERT!" ![]() These are based on Maasai clothing: ![]() Finally, after a little thought, this sketch represents the style I would like the game to use for people. I think it would be fun to make the 3D models in a similar style. ![]() It won't be long before I select a few of the best pieces, redraw them in a more refined manner, and color them. I can't wait :D posted at 6:03 AM | 0 comments Monday, October 09, 2006Books books booksI visited the library last night and checked out some books for reference. They mostly deal with African art, but one of them is photo documentation of the Maasai as well. My friend Allie also loaned me a book called A History of Art in Africa. At this point, I have a lot of legitimate book references to work off of. I'm also thinking of leaning towards a more stylized art style for actual human beings, and creating a world where non-humans aren't just enemies, but can mingle with natives. My inspiration for this was Final Fantasy 9, where you didn't just have humans, but dog-, penguin-, ox-, and bird-like people as well. posted at 1:23 PM | 0 comments Thursday, September 28, 2006Rough Sketch: Mountain GuardianThe origin of these giant rock creatures is unknown; are they are a natural occurence or a creation of some ancient society? Only one thing is certain; they do not like when travelers tresspass into their mountains. If the mountain guardian is encountered, it is best to turn around and walk (do not run) in the opposite direction. ![]() Rough Sketch: Jackal Men These hounds have learned to walk on their hinds legs and hunt like men. They have been known to kill other predators that get in their way, with the exception of lions and jaguars. ![]() |
